Frequently asked questions

Does the app need an account?

No. Any Cat has no sign-in flow and no account requirement.

Does the app work offline?

Yes for all core features. The breed catalog, health predispositions, care guides, and breed finder are all bundled in the app. Public reference links (CFA, VCA, Wikipedia) open outside the app and need an internet connection.

What information is shown for each breed?

Breed pages include origin, registry recognition, temperament, life span, weight, care traits, sociability, practical home-life notes, and (new in 1.2) breed health predispositions with screening guidance.

What are the breed health predispositions?

The Health Predispositions card on each breed detail page lists the genetic and breed-linked conditions documented for that breed in published veterinary and genetic literature. Each condition entry includes a brief description, signs to watch for, and available screening options. This is educational information — not veterinary advice — and having a predisposition does not mean an individual cat will develop a condition.

Where does the health data come from?

Health predispositions are compiled in-house from Cornell Feline Health Center breed resources, VCA Hospitals breed profiles, Norgate Animal Hospital genetic conditions guides, the UC Davis Veterinary Genetics Laboratory, Catster breed health articles, Wisdom Panel feline genetics guides, and peer-reviewed literature via PubMed. Sources are listed in the Health by Breed catalog inside the app.

How do Compare and Breed Finder work?

Compare lets you place up to three breeds side by side to see their trait scores. Breed Finder asks a few short questions and ranks the catalog by how well each breed matches your answers. Both run offline.

Is the care reference veterinary advice?

No. The body condition scale, feeding cadence, weight bands, health predispositions, and all other care content are general and educational only. They are not veterinary advice — always consult a licensed veterinarian for your cat's health and feeding needs.

How do I share a breed's details?

Open a breed detail page and tap the share icon in the top-right corner. The iOS share sheet will open with a plain-text summary of the breed's name, origin, weight, trait scores, and description. You can copy it, send it in a message, or save it to notes.

Why do some links open outside the app?

Optional follow-up references open in Safari so you can read public source material directly from those websites.
